Last Meeting of the semester

Meeting: GAMB 250 7:00

We had a great turnout for our USC weekend with the president. We had an all Gamecock load with President Pastides and Dr. Hickey our adviser. We also made front page of The Daily Gamecock on the following Monday.

On April 25-26 (Sat-Sun) there will be a 4-way competition and $20 lift tickets. It's a great opportunity to make self-supervised jumps towards an A license.

May 29-31 (Fri-Sun) we have our Gamecock Invitational which is our first time hosting a collegiate sponsored skydiving competition. We will have events such as: Accuracy 2-way 4-way(?) It will take place at Skydive Carolina. We are working on getting discounted lift tickets and a sponsor for our event. Registration will get you access to the Carolina Fest Boogie the following weekend as well (a $50 value).

June 2-7 (Tue-Sun) is the Carolina Fest Boogie at Skydive Carolina. Registering for the Gamecock Invitational gets you free access to this boogie. There will be hundreds of jumpers and many additional aircraft such as a king air, casa, helicopter and balloon. There will be discounted lift tickets and skill classes as well.

Be thinking about t-shirt/sweatshirt designs for next year so we can get them made at the beginning of the fall semester. Be sure to come out to the events this summer.

Last Big Skydive Weekend will be with the University President!

The last big skydive weekend will be held THIS WEEKEND: April 17-19. President of the University, Dr. Harris Pastides will be making a tandem jump on Saturday morning. He is arriving at 8:00am and will be on the first load possible. We are planning to make an all USC load, so it will happen as soon as we have enough people signed up to make a load. If you want to be on the ALL USC LOAD, we are asking you to be up and ready by 8:00am! If you've yet to schedule your jump, call Skydive Carolina at 803-581-5867. See you there!

Next Year

We had an officer's meeting on Tuesday, and have some great ideas lined up for next year that we want to share with you.

We will be forming some new committees as soom as we get back from summer break, including a Sports Club committee (dedicated to helping us become a sports club) and a Gamecock Invitational committee (dedicated to planning and making our 2010 invitational a success!)

Bryn, our new Marketing Supervisor has some great fundraising ideas lined up, such as % night at a local restaurant. If you're interested in helping out with fundraising next year, please contact her!

We will be making new t-shirts for next year, so start thinking of designs over the summer. We will like to have a number of designs to vote on, and will like to order the shirts at the begining of the semester, so start designing! :)

We will be changing how our meetings are structured next semester and will be filling them more with classes that will help you become a better skydiver. We will bring packing classes, skill classes, tips, and videos into our meetings, as well as great speakers. Get excited for a more handson semester! If you have any ideas for a great meeting topic, please let us know.

We will have handouts for new members, that have all the prices and info about our club, so the returning members don't have to listen the same information being told over again at the first month's worth of meetings.

Remember, we're open to suggestions! This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

We had a great founding year as the Flying Gamecocks, and hope to see all of you come out again in the fall! Have a wonderful summer and good luck on finals!
